Guild Mentoring Scheme 

The Guild mentoring scheme continues to be a huge success and a valuable resource for all members, we would like to invite those who have received credit/s to continue, or become, a mentor for the coming year.   

Many thanks for those who gave up their time to help others raise the standard of members work over the past year, we continue to receive fantastic feedback about the scheme and the help you’ve given.

You may feel that you are not good enough to mentor someone. However, even if you have achieved a single credit, your current knowledge will be much more than a complete beginner that you could help with their journey.

For those who have not been a mentor yet, here’s how it works:

·         You would offer to mentor one or more proteges (however many you would be comfortable with) and would help with problems/questions that may arise with their work and give constructive feedback of their mounted specimens. 

·         You can set the pace of mentorship to suit you by; limiting the time you give, the number of questions you deal with, the communication method used and for however long you wish to continue with the scheme. 

·         We found that on average a mentor spent one hour per month helping each mentee. 

Please complete this questionnaire HERE to outline the subject area you are qualified in (e.g birds, mammals, fish etc) and the number of mentees you are happy to help.

Could everyone please reply to the questionnaire by return (even if you do not wish to take part). 

Once we have our volunteer mentors’ places will be offered to the general membership and places will be secured on a first-come, first-served basis. 

We sincerely hope that you can help with this valuable scheme and input your knowledge back to the Guild and its members to add to the consistently improving standard of taxidermy.

The mentorship scheme can be a fun and rewarding scheme for everyone and is a great way to build networks and friendships within the Guild and wider taxidermy community.
